Why HOD UV?
Water Desinfection
HOD UV is a sustainable alternative to chlorine and ozone disinfection. With accredited validation to undetectable microbial level in 1000ml, it easily inactivates microorganisms including chlorine resistant viruses, pseudomonas, cryptosporidium and giardia, as well as algae. HOD UV eradicates the threat of disinfection by-products that could result in product recall and the physical process for disinfection does not affect water mineral balance and flavor profile.
Algae Inactivation
HOD UV has field-proven experience treating water contaminated with algae, ensuring that bottled water remains clear and won’t turn green from algae contamination, ensuring a much longer shelf life.
Firewall
Municipal source water or alternative groundwater sources cannot guarantee water safety 24/7. As a result, disinfection is required at the entrance to the plant to ensure product safety and prevent contaminated water from entering the production line.
Membrane Protection
HOD UV has field-proven experience treating water contaminated with algae, ensuring that bottled water remains clear and won’t turn green from algae contamination, ensuring a much longer shelf life.
Ozone Destruction
Ozone is a strong oxidant that changes the flavor profile of bottled beverages and needs to be removed. HOD UV is an efficient, cost-effective solution for ozone destruction.
Proven Treatment with Guaranteed Results
  • No changes to taste and flavor profiles
  • Real-time monitoring & control
  • Push-of-a-button compliance reports
  • Validated according to U.S. EPA criteria to undetectable microbial level in 1000ml

Why HOD UV?
High Gravity Water Disinfection (Water for Dilution)
HOD UV treats the water added to the brew water just before bottling. It is crucial that this water is uncontaminated by residual taste or odor, and Atlantium’s solution guarantees water biosecurity with the use of light and without the use of chemical disinfectants, preventing disinfection by-products.
Brew Water
HOD UV inactivates even highly resistant microorganisms that spoil beer production and protects brew water from contamination. The medium pressure UV lamps operate effectively in high and low water temperatures and ensure high quality water on demand for the brewing process.

HOD UV Eliminates Beer-Spoiling Bacteria
The HOD UV technology was evaluated for its performance eliminating beer-spoiling bacteria. Large-scale tests were conducted by Dr.-Ing.Gerrit Blumelhuber of the Doemens Academy GmbH, Grafelfing, Bavaria, Germany. Suspensions of Escherichia coli, Saccharomyces cerevisiae carlsbergensis and Lactobacillus casei organisms were prepared and continuously dosed into a stream of sterile water entering the unit.

World-Leading Brands Use HOD UV
Bottlers the world over rely on the water treatment and UV experts at Atlantium to provide disinfection and biofouling control solutions, with the use of light and without the use of chemical disinfectants.
Why HOD UV?
Chlorine Replacement
HOD UV is a validated, credited system accepted by regulators as an alternative to chlorine for primary water disinfection. It is sustainable and cost-effective, and easily inactivates microorganisms, including chlorine resistant pathogens, pseudomonas, cryptosporidium and giardia. It inactivates heat resistant spores too.
Product Water Desinfection
HOD UV guarantees water biosecurity with the use of light and without the use chemical disinfectants, preventing disinfection by-products that need removal procedures. It has accredited validation for 4-log* virus and 5-log microbial inactivation. There is no residual taste or odor that could affect product flavor.

Post Activated Carbon
Carbon is a breeding ground for bacteria prone to biofouling and, without heavy maintenance, subject to costly breakthroughs. A HOD UV system installed immediately after the carbon filter protects against breakthroughs and reduces contamination caused by biofouling downstream, lowering the demand for frequent and aggressive cleaning. Water, energy and production costs are reduced, providing a quick ROI.
Membrane Protection
HOD UV inhibits biofilm growth on membranes, greatly extending membrane life and reducing the maintenance burden and operating costs. Membrane biofouling reduces production and increases the energy required to push the water through the membrane.
Firewall
Municipal source water or alternative groundwater sources cannot guarantee water safety 24/7. As a result, disinfection is required at the entrance to the plant to ensure product safety and prevent contaminated water from entering the production line.
Ozone Destruction
Ozone is a strong oxidant that changes the flavor profile of bottled beverages and needs to be removed. HOD UV is an efficient, cost-effective solution for ozone destruction.
Process Water Desinfection
HOD UV enables high microbial inactivation with the use of light and without the use of chemical disinfectants, for use in rinse and CIP applications. It achieves high log reductions and is particularly effective against biofouling-causing bacteria such as pseudomonas, that also happen to be highly resistant to chlorine.
Dechlorination / Chlorine Destruction
HOD UV reduces Free Available-Chlorine (FAC) and chloramines in beverage production lines to undetectable levels. The technology provides an efficient and sustainable alternative to activated carbon filter or sodium bisulfite, with reduced risk, better protection and lower operating expenses.
Pasteurized - Equivalent Water
HOD UV meets FDA criteria for pasteurized-equivalent water, opening the door to a sustainable alternative to heat — with cost-saving, time-saving pasteurized equivalent water on-demand. The HOD UV system is verified for compliance by third-party validation.

Hydro-Optic™ UV Disinfection Replaces Traditional Heat Pasteurization
Idaho-based High Desert Milk processes 2.5 million lb of milk into 200,000 lb of dry milk per day and pasteurizes large quantities of condensate of whey (COW) water. In 2012, the facility implemented Atlantium’s HOD™ (Hydro-Optic Disinfection) UV disinfection solution to meet the FDA PMO 2011 Grade “A” regulatory criteria as an alternative to traditional, high-energy consumption heat pasteurization and provide the assurance that no spores or other water-borne microorganisms can infiltrate their production line, including heat-resistant spores that pasteurization can’t kill.
